Just wondering how other's have transitioned from driving exclusively automatic transmissions to a 6-speed manual. I think it is kind of wild that my first 6-Speed manual happens to be a beast of an engine! When I first got it, I had a few days where I wished that I had gone for a tip like in my B5, but now I am 6-speed all the way.
Dec 08, 2008 #4. Dog box has straight cut gears. The noise is horrific. You'll not want to drive it for any distance. Think of reverse gear, it's straight cut on most cars. Think of 120mph in reverse type sound levels. If you must get a straight cut 1st, and maybe 2nd. But only if you start ripping helical gears to pieces.

Vice grips to break the 2 or 3 allen head bolts on the bottom of the tranny loose if they are still in there. Replace with hex head if you want bolts there. Wrong fw bolts = new motor. Mix up the trans bolts = new motor. Get 1 part wrong inside the trans = do it all over again.
